Campus life

Campus is the term that is applied to the grounds and the physical location of a university or a college. It is used for the grounds as a whole and the all of the buildings and facilities that can be found within it. It includes all the lecture halls, the libraries and even the dormitories for the students. The grounds would include the park like reservations for the school.

The term was first applied to the grounds of the College of New Jersey which eventually became Yale University. That was in the 18th century and the term was derived from the Latin term which means field. Since then the word has been adapted and used to describe the grounds of other schools as well. In those days the term was used to describe only a particular field within the school grounds, but as the years passed by it became used to describe the whole area that was within the school premises.

The term has also been applied to schools in other countries, though the learning institutions there have a different more urban setting. In those cases the word campus means all the buildings and facilities though they might be placed within a city.

Campus Life Tips- Living inside a campus while studying college can be quite an experience for a student. TAFE vs University

TAFE stands for technical and further education and is a form of tertiary education in Australia. It provides a wide variety of technical training and covers many fields such as finance, hospitality, tourism, construction, visual arts and other fields. Institutions that provide TAFE are known as institutes and colleges. They are usually funded by the governments of the state or territory where they are located.

Qualifications- By taking up this form or education an individual can get an advanced diploma. That qualification is just one degree below that of a Bachelor’s degree. It can also be used as a credit towards getting a Bachelor’s Degree. In recent years however there are some areas in Australia where TAFE institutions are now offering Bachelor’s degree programs. That was done in order to fill certain niches that have been lacking qualified manpower. Most of those niches are connected with technical work.

Advantages of TAFE- There are several scenarios why going for a TAFE would be best for you:

  • You want to jumpstart your move into a career
  • You want to make a change in your profession
  • You want to gain an additional skill
  • You would like a promotion

For all of these situations, getting a TAFE is probably the best solution there is. The good thing about the programs within this system is that they were developed in consultation with the relevant industries. That means you wouldn’t be studying anything that is useless. You only have to learn what you can use on the job. TAFE focuses on applied skills and does not emphasize abstract skills which might be good to hear inside the classroom, but would be hard to use in real life. It could also be the fast track for finding work that you have always wanted.

TAFE vs. University Education- We always hear how getting a university degree is the real path for a successful life, but how come that there are so many unemployed with their Bachelor’s Degrees to their names?

The mind-set that getting a university degree is the only real way to success has been ingrained into the minds of our parents. They learned to look down on technical and blue collar work, deeming it as second class. This ignores the fact that these technical jobs can pay just as well and in many instances even better than white collar jobs. What is even more important is these are the jobs that are always in demand. Having a technical skill that will be needed by others no matter is sometimes better than having a PhD on some esoteric knowledge.
